Middletown Medical, the Hudson Valley’s premier provider of healthcare services, has announced the addition of its first oncologist, Dr. Angela Marcelino. Dr. Marcelino, who also practices hematology, specializes in the treatment of all types of cancers. She will be accepting patients at Middletown Medical’s Oncology office located at 2 Edgewater Drive in Middletown.

Dr. Marcelino earned her Bachelor of Arts from Rutgers College of New Brunswick, N.J. and her medical degree through Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine of NYC where she graduated with a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.). She completed her residency at SUNY Downstate College of Medicine in Brooklyn, N.Y., where she also completed a Hematology and Oncology fellowship serving as Chief Fellow.

“We are confident Dr. Marcelino will make a great addition to the Middletown Medical team,” said Melissa Wolff, the medical group’s Marketing Director and Physician Recruiter. “By expanding our offerings to include Oncology and Hematology, we will be able to further our mission of providing comprehensive, quality health care to the local community.”

Since completing her education, Dr. Marcelino has participated in extensive research efforts, including work at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Tischfield Laboratory of Rutgers College, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Marcelino has also worked with quality improvement projects and with the Institutional Review Board on the Scientific Review Committee where she reviewed and submitted multiple study proposals. She recently published a review on the phenomenon of schistocytosis in B12 deficiency and is currently developing a prospective trial looking at hair loss as a marker of response to chemotherapy.

Dr. Marcelino is a member of multiple organizations including the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the American Medical Association (AMA).

The Middletown Medical Oncology Department is slated for a Phase II expansion later this year with the addition of an Infusion Center, affiliated with Westchester Medical Center, expected to open in fall 2018.
