Four of Middletown Medical’s health care professionals will participate in this year’s Movember campaign, a fun and innovative approach to generating awareness about men’s health issues.

As participants, Dhiren Patel, M.D., John Carey, M.D., George Giovannone, P.T., and Matt Koennecke, P.T.A., will grow a moustache during the month of November. The Movember campaign challenges men to grow a moustache as a way of taking real action to spark conversation and raise funds and awareness about prostate cancer and testicular cancer, among other medical issues men face today.

“Many men don’t discuss some of the more sensitive health issues, whether due to embarrassment, or some other reason,” said Lori Marl, Operations Director. “As a result, we aren’t taking action to prevent or get out in front of what could be a serious issue. Hopefully, this will help spark conversations about men’s health.”

The Movember campaign is an initiative of the Movember Foundation, a global charity raising funds and awareness for men’s health. Since 2003, the foundation has encourage millions to join the men’s health movement, and has raised more than $650 million and funded over 1,000 programs focusing on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, poor mental health, and physical inactivity. The foundation’s vision is to have an everlasting impact on men’s health.
