Goshen, N.Y. – October 18, 2018 – Blustein, Shapiro, Rich & Barone partner Austin F. DuBois will be presenting at the New York State Bar Association’s Intermediate Elder Law seminar on Friday, November 2 at the Holiday Inn in Mount Kisco.

DuBois, who helps people protect their assets from nursing home and long-term care costs, and designs and implements complex and high net worth estate plans, will educate participants on the intricacies of Article 83 (Uniform Guardianship and Protective Proceedings Jurisdiction Act). The seminar will also address other key topics related to elder law practice including Medicaid crisis planning, ethics, recent Medicaid Fair Hearing decisions and GIS memos, and Social Security – SSA POMS.

The seminar, which includes continuing education credits and is designed for attorneys, will outline how to to tackle difficult ethical concerns arising in elder law practice such as identifying and handling conflicts of interest, questions about “who is the client,” and when the attorney-client privilege is applicable.

DuBois will offer insight into Article 83, which addresses the issue of jurisdiction over adult guardianships, conservatorships, and other protective proceedings, providing a mechanism for resolving multi-state jurisdictional disputes.

DuBois is a member of WealthCounsel, ElderCounsel, and the Hudson Valley Estate Planning Council. He is a cum laude graduate of SUNY Fredonia and received his Juris Doctorate degree from Rutgers University School of Law at Camden. He also received his LL.M. degree in taxation, with a focus in estate and business planning, from Temple University Law School.
