Registered Dietitian Nutritionist & Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist
With more than 30 years of experience in nutrition and diabetes care, Shelly DeHaan has dedicated her career to helping patients take control of their health through knowledge, support, and practical tools. She has guided thousands of patients through personalized nutrition plans, diabetes self-management programs, and advanced diabetes technology training. Her expertise includes insulin pump therapy, continuous glucose monitoring systems, and medical nutrition therapy tailored to each patient’s unique needs.
Shelly specializes in diabetes care and education, working with patients from those newly diagnosed or living with pre-diabetes to individuals managing long-standing diabetes. She provides hands-on guidance with insulin delivery systems and continuous glucose monitoring, including Medtronic MiniMed, OmniPod, Tandem, and BetaBionics devices. Her clinical background also includes medical nutrition therapy to support patients with diabetes, cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, and pregnancy, including gestational diabetes, as well as those seeking weight management, preventive care, or overall wellness. In addition, Shelly offers lifestyle coaching, helping patients build sustainable habits in eating, physical activity, and stress reduction.
Her approach is compassionate, practical, and patient-centered, designed to empower individuals to feel confident and supported in managing their health every day.
Ms. DeHaan earned her Master of Public Administration from the College of New Rochelle and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. She completed her dietetic internship at United Health Services in Binghamton, New York.
Outside of her professional work, Shelly enjoys camping, hiking, and other outdoor activities. She also volunteers with Cornell Cooperative Extension, sharing her expertise to support community health and wellness.
Shelly’s credentials and professional memberships include Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES), and Certified Diabetes Technology Clinician (CDTC). She is also a member of the American Diabetes Association, the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists, and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
