BIO
Dr. Munir A. Shikari brings over four decades of experience in cardiology and internal medicine to his current role at Middletown Medical, where he serves as a consultant clinical cardiologist at the Monticello office. After retiring at the end of 2023 from a long and accomplished career in both academic and clinical medicine, he spent a year and a quarter traveling across nearly 14 countries. That time away affirmed what he had always known—his passion for medicine and patient care was still strong. In April 2025, he returned to practice in a flexible, part-time capacity, continuing to offer expert cardiovascular care to the community he has long served.
Dr. Shikari is best known as the founder and longtime president of Hudson Valley Cardiologists, P.C., which he led from 1992 until its merger with Premier Medical Group in 2019. Throughout his career, he held several key leadership roles at Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, including Chief of the Cardiology Subdivision and Chair of the Critical Care Units Committee. He remained on the hospital’s active medical staff for over 30 years, recognized for his clinical excellence, compassionate care, and commitment to mentoring younger physicians.
Dr. Shikari completed his internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. His clinical interests include heart failure, arrhythmias, cardiac imaging, and preventive cardiology. He has authored and contributed to multiple research publications in the field, including studies on left ventricular pressure and the therapeutic use of magnesium in supraventricular tachycardia.
Fluent in English, Urdu, Bengali, and Hindi, Dr. Shikari brings a broad cultural perspective and warm, personalized approach to his patient care. Outside of medicine, he enjoys traveling, chess, cricket, and community service. He lives in Newburgh, New York with his wife, Gulzar, a computing science graduate from Thames Polytechnic in London.
