Reading a book before going to bed is good for you in many different ways.
First, it helps to calm the nerves by eliminating excess sound and vision stimulus. A television set has noises, flashing lights, and too many distractions during what is meant to be a quiet down time.
And in addition to being much quieter than TV, reading is also a good stress reliever.
