Some tips to come out unscathed from Dr. Robert Mantica, our well-known Orthopedic Surgeon & Sports Medicine specialist:
1) Don’t dive into anything (major injury or even paralysis can — and has — occurred);
2) Don’t give into peer pressure (these races often involve “teams” running together — if something doesn’t feel right, don’t do it);
3) Be aware of your surroundings (you’re often running with hundreds of other competitors — watch for those around you to avoid contact and a possible fall, injuries, etc.);
4) Remember the story of the Tortoise & The Hare? (tread lightly in your first such attempt).
